Joe was Wine Writer for The Herald newspaper for fourteen years. He built up a loyal following of readers who enjoyed his entertaining diary-style column as much as his recommendations. Joe reported on wine tastings from Glasgow pubs to The White House Correspondents' Dinner. He was shortlisted for the Glenfiddich Wine Writer of the Year Award.
Joe has written a regular column for Harpers Wine and Spirit, the house magazine of the British wine trade. Joe wrote about cultural anthropology, Adam Smith and C S Lewis in exploring the challenges facing the wine trade. Joe was one of the first writers to explore the complex issues surrounding wine and climate change, and was a speaker at Harpers events.
Are organic wines a con? What's next for Argentina? Where's the best value in Chianti Classico? Joe has written for Decanter, Wine & Spirit, Capitol File and many other magazines. He is happy to provoke discussion, but always with keen analysis and captivating writing.
